Authentic Carthusian Herbalism

A Centuries Old Alpine Tradition

Monks of the Carthusian Order (Certosini in Italy, Chartreuse in France) have been making authentic alchemical elixirs since the sixteenth century from a blend of more than 120 alpine herbs.  Distinctive notes include rosemary, thyme, wormwood along with forest mushrooms, gentian, burdock, cinnamon, cardamom and dozens more.

The inimitable complexity of Certosino is a rare treat when enjoyed alone or when combined with other fine ingredients to create nuanced cocktails.  In many ways, Certosino is akin to an Amaro however its unique complexity - herbal, bitter, floral, sweet, spicy, citrus, umami - facilitates endless possibilities for enjoyment.  What was originally designed as a health drink is now so much more.  A unique and delicious beverage of rarified sophistication and grace.

Certosino was produced at the Forence Charterhouse (Certosa di Firenze or Certosa del Galluzzo), founded in 1341, during much of the 20th century until, 1958 when the Cistercian monks assumed management of the property.  Certosino is still made using the same base recipe used by the monks since the seventeenth century.
